I lived in New York City for two of the most exciting years of my earlier life. I loved everything about it — the sights and sounds, the energy, the wonderful neighborhoods and the feeling that something was always happening, day or night.
Every part of New York has its own personality, but one of my favorite stretches is Park Avenue, from 50th Street to about 90th Street. In my opinion, this long, elegant corridor contains some of the most beautiful real estate in America.
Uptown Express is my simplified, abstracted interpretation of this remarkable part of the city. I wanted to capture something of its architecture, rhythm and energy without trying to reproduce it literally.
If, like me, you love New York, perhaps Uptown Express will become more than a colorful work of art. Maybe it will serve as a daily reminder of a city unlike any other — a place where beauty, energy and possibility seem to exist around every corner.
